How is the world experienced by someone living with Alzheimer’s disease? Their perception is confined to the present moment, with no clear sense of what lies behind or ahead. Essentially, they exist in a constant state of disconnection, anchored to a single point without an understanding of the broader context. This is likely to evoke feelings of fear and exhaustion.

The music composition Everywhere at the End of Time by The Caretaker translates the stages of Alzheimer’s disease into sound.
Stage 3 is described as: “Here we are presented with some of the last coherent memories before confusion fully sets in, as the grey mists form and fade away.”
Inspired by this piece, I created a video using moving image to reflect its themes. By working with ink and water, the video symbolizes the transformation from clarity and transparency to a state of obscurity, where everything becomes indistinct, blurred, and dark.
